Analysis: The move Friday was made retroactive to March 21. Hamels, a three-time All-Star and the 2008 World Series MVP, went 8-14 with a 3.60 ERA last season. He had been sidelined all spring until tossing two innings in a minor league game Thursday. Hamels announced the day before camp opened that he was experiencing discomfort in his pitching shoulder.

Analysis: The Phillies' ace had slowed down his rehab from biceps tendinitis after feeling discomfort earlier in spring. Hamels entered camp behind the rest of the pitchers after battling biceps tendinitis in November. Since he's roughly a month behind the other members of the Phillies staff, Hamels is likely to begin the season on the disabled list and could miss the majority of April, too.
