Analysis: The 43-year-old Giambi has been on the disabled list since May 5 with a strained calf. Before he was placed on the DL, Giambi, who has 438 career homers, was hitless in 10 at-bats. He's been on the DL twice this season.

Analysis: Giambi was removed from Saturday night's game against the Chicago White Sox after grounding into a double play in the fourth inning. Giambi began the season on the disabled list after breaking a rib during training camp and the 43-year-old is 0-for-10 this season.

The 43-year-old recently was at Double-A Akron for a minor league injury rehabilitation assignment. Giambi said he's ready to play, but the Indians will wait until after the weekend, when they open a four-game series against the Kansas City Royals.
Analysis: Indians manager Terry Francona said the team has missed Giambi, who brings leadership, years of experience and "can change the game in the batter's box." Giambi injured his rib during spring training and was placed on the DL on March 30. He batted .183 last season, but hit nine homers and drove in 31 runs in 186 at-bats.
