Analysis: New York hopes to re-sign the 37-year-old, who originally was expected back in July but had a series of setbacks. The Mets would want Delgado to accept a deal with a relatively low guarantee with substantial bonuses.

Analysis: Sidelined since May 11, Delgado tried again to run outside last weekend but his hip became inflamed. He said the recent soreness in his side and back also were related to the hip injury. The 37-year-old Delgado can become a free agent after this season, his fourth in New York. Ravaged by injuries all year, the Mets might look for a younger and perhaps less expensive option at first base in 2010.

Analysis: Delgado's fourth homer gave him 1,512 RBIs, snapping a tie with Mantle for 48th place on the career list. It was the slugger's third multihit effort in his last four games.

Analysis: Delgado is hitting .260 right now and has 18 RBIs, but his lack of power in becoming a concern. He's gone 10 straight games without a home run.

Analysis: Delgado said there was inflammation in his hip joint and hoped the rest would prevent the problem from becoming a nagging injury. It's a good sign that he at least got an at-bat.
